Dermatology and venerology

Dermatology treats conditions such as acne, eczema (allergic and constitutional), psoriasis, fungal infections, cutaneous lupus erythematosus, etc. This field of medicine also deals with the detection, diagnosis and treatment of pigment defects of the skin (moles or “beauty spots”). Problems associated with exposure to the sun and skin ageing are also dealt with. After carefully examining the lesions, the dermatologist takes samples and then carries out various tests to arrive at an accurate diagnosis. Surgery may have to be carried out to remove malignant or benign growths.
